Nora Roberts is back with book number two in the Chronicles Of One Series, which continues the story started in the first book Year One last year. The story fast forwards to the 13th birthday of Fallon Swift and that means it is decision time. Will she go with Mallick and start fulfilling her destiny as the One who will save the world. Everything has been peaceful with her family these last few years. She and her family don’t really want her to go. But she makes the decision to go.
She is trained by Mallick and learns a lot of about the past, her future and her powers. She’s given a series of challenges that she fulfills and soon becomes the warrior woman she’s meant to be. After two years she is returned to her family and starts her quest to do what she was born to do.
She has a final showdown with the uncle that killed her biological family and starts building her army to take on the dark in the ultimate battle (which will have to wait for at least one more book). This story is all about Fallon and her training and getting her ready for what is coming. It also follows the colony founded in last years book and where they are at now in the story.
This second book is a good look and more of a place holder at what we have to look forward to in the next book. It builds Fallon’s character and that of the other characters in the story, so when we get to the next book we have people to root for and know who and what they can do.
I for one can’t wait for the battle to end all battles (okay I can’t wait for the Final Game Of Thrones battle either) but I know after reading the first two battles Nora will have one hell of a next book!
You can pick this up in stores on Tuesday, December 4th from St. Martin’s Press.
