Book Review: ‘Killer In The Carriage House’ Is The Next Fun Victorian Village Mystery

Author Sheila Connolly is back with her second book in her Victorian Village series. This time out Kate Hamilton is still working on saving the town of Asheboro (her home town) with her idea of turning main street into a Victorian look to attract people to come here. She is developing plans along with Josh and talking with the locals on their thoughts.

She is still going through Henry Barton’s Victorian mansion hoping to find more valuable stuff like the Clara Barton papers she found in the first book. She has brought in Carroll to help organize everything and is planning on using the library to work from. Then one morning she finds a man murdered (he had come in the day before looking to for something) and she’s back in the thick of another murder investigation (like in book number one).

As Kate, Josh and Carroll go through the Barton stuff they check the warehouse that Henry owned and discover a something shocking, Henry may own certain patents that Thomas Edison claimed to own. This could be a big deal with the local electric company. As they dig they find a connection with the dead man and it may lead to someone close to them as the murdered and could be a big find for the town.

Another fun book in the series. The small town setting works great in this story and the characters are fun to follow. You root for them to try and save the town and figure out the mystery of Henry Barton.

You can pick up Killer In The Carriage House from Minotaur Books on Tuesday, July 9th.
