Lisa Scottoline is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. No matter what she writes I love it. And her new book Exposed (St. Martin’s Press; in stores Tuesday, August 15) is no exception. She brings back Rosato & DiNunzio for their fifth story.
It’s a potential partner showdown when Mary takes on a case with a close family friend Simon who thinks he was wrongfully fired from his job and wants to sue. He also has a little girl that’s in the hospital waiting for a bone donor to help save her life and having medical bills pilling up. When she tells Bennie she finds out that one her clients is the parent company of one of the businesses she is going to sue. It causes a rift as this could be a potential conflict of interest.
After some research it’s a very grey area and Mary is taking the case. After some heated discussion Mary says that the will leave the partnership in order to work the suit. Bennie goes to her client and tries to work a deal to avoid the case happening at all but it fails. The next day a complaint is made against Mary with the Law Board and a lawsuit is filled against Simon. So things are going from bad to worse.
Then the guy that fired Simon and is part of the lawsuit against him is found murdered just after an altercation with Simon who is arrested for his murder. Now it’s up to Mary and Bennie to put aside their differences and work together to save Simon and it just may cost them their lives.
This is my first time reading one of these stories about them and it won’t be my last time. Lisa just writes exciting novels, with well written characters (and this one is about strong females) and thrilling adventures. Pick it up for yourself on Tuesday, August 15.
