Book Review: ‘Death And Other Happy Endings: A Novel’ By Melanie Cantor

Jennifer Cole has just found out she has a blood disorder and she has three months or so to live and there’s no cure. She is shaken with this news and confides in her close friend Olivia and tells her boss and one other at work. She has to decide how she will live her final months. She doesn’t have a bucket list nor does she want one. She does feel she has unfinished business with her ex-husband and the woman he cheated on her with. Also with her sister and Harry the love of her live that got away.

She decides to write letters to each of them telling them she is dying and what she thinks of them and how things have gone down with them. She hears back from all three and meets with each of them and comes to a sense of calm with each of them. She also does something she hasn’t done before. She meets a man on a walk and before she knows it she has had sex with him and then just walks away.

She is cutting back on her work hours, planning her funeral and helping Olivia find her wedding dress since she won’t be around when she gets married. But life has a way of surprising you and she soon learns that as she counts down the days and is in for the shock of her life.

An interesting story of looking at your immortality and what would you do if you were told you had three months to live? There are twists and turns as you read this book and you become invested in Jennifer’s live and how she will live it.

You can pick up Death And Other Happy Endings in stores on Tuesday, July 9th from Pamela Dorman Books.
